Age UK York has been working with and for older people in York for over 40 years. We provide a wide range of personal and practical support, including information and advice, arranging for respite care and friendly visitors, helping people after a stay in hospital, holidays and other leisure activities.
We are an autonomous local charity, and as such need to raise funds in York to support the many services we offer. Our shops are a vital tool in providing money for the charity.
Information and advice
We have leaflets, booklets and specialist leaflets on health, housing, support in the community, benefits, finances, clubs, leisure activities, holidays, and personal matters.
The aim of the service is to provide companionship and support to housebound older people living alone in the community.
Enables older people to have choice with their shopping. Staff or volunteers will phone the older person for their shopping list and arrange for local supermarkets via the internet to deliver on a day and time that is convenient to them.
Our scheme is a flexible service of up to six weeks to support older people when they leave hospital or intermediate care.
The scheme offers help with shopping, ensuring the older person has the services and equipment they require, and checking they are recovering well.
In Safe Hands
The service offers short breaks to caring relatives and friends who look after an older person. Volunteers would take the place of the carer so the carer can have a break. Arrangements may be made to cover daytime or evening, on an occasional or regular basis; night care, live-in care, pop in visits, providing a suitable volunteer are all available. There is a charge for this service.
Feather Duster Cleaning
Our tailored service for older people who find it difficult to do their own cleaning. We offer friendly, helpful, vetted cleaners to carry out weekly, fortnightly or monthly cleans. There is a charge for this service.
Age UK York organises Day Clubs, offering older people an attractive social meeting place, hot lunch, refreshments and interesting activities.
