For health and wellbeing – Acutu acupuncture and Chinese tui na medical massage. Whether you have ongoing or acute health concerns, or just want to boost your energy levels and feel great, acupuncture and tui na can help you.

What are acupuncture and tui na massage?

Acupuncture and tui na massage are ancient Chinese medicine systems for understanding and treating health and disease. Acupuncture uses very fine needles inserted into the body, while tui na (pronounced ‘twee - nar’) uses non-invasive deep-tissue medical massage techniques. Both therapies have developed over the last 3,000 years to become a highly sophisticated system, able to treat recent, chronic or recurring problems – often making sense of illnesses that modern medicine has difficulty treating. Choose whichever suits you – or combine the two!

If you’d like to find out more about what acupuncture and tui na can do for you, please call on 07582 234578.

What happens in a treatment?

During an acupuncture treatment, acupuncture points are selected according to your symptoms, and fine needles are inserted. When the needles are in place, you can relax for about 20 minutes, after which the needles are removed. Acupuncture has very few side-effects, and those that may occur are mild and self-correcting.

In a tui na treatment, the patient remains fully clothed and is covered by a light cotton sheet. Affected muscles and joints are massaged using a range of techniques to soften muscles, allow blood to flow more easily, and restore range of movement and mobility.

For both acupuncture and tui na, the length of a course of treatment depends on symptoms and severity, but can be advised after a first treatment, in consultation with you.

Acutu is owned and run by Karen Charlesworth, a graduate of the Northern College of Acupuncture and the Touch Tuina Academy UK. Karen believes the health benefits of acupuncture and tui na should be affordable and sustainable for as many patients as possible.

A cuppa, a chat and a taster!

If you want to know more, but don't want to commit to a full treatment, you can book a half-hour 'taster' session for £10. You get a cup of my delicious Dragon Well oolong tea, we can talk about your health, and you can try a couple of needles or a ten-minute massage. Knowing a bit more about your health helps me to assess whether acupuncture and/or tui na can help you. There's absolutely no obligation to continue with treatment, and all your information is kept completely confidential.
